On a winter night in 1947, a Methodist Minister, Rev. Dr. Clarence Tompkins, and four of his friends each put $50 on a dining room table and vowed to establish a home where retired men and women could live in an atmosphere of Christian love and compassion. In the three years that followed, these visionaries raised over $3 million, and the first residents moved into Friendship Haven on July 4, 1950.
Since that time, Friendship Haven has never asked a resident to leave because they could no longer pay the cost of their care. With your help, we will continue to care for those who outlive their resources.
The Friendship Haven Memorial Foundation was established in 1951. Through diligent management and the generosity of donors, today its assets total more than $10 million. More than $7 million is board and donor restricted to the "Care Trust Fund," which is an endowment dedicated to providing rate subsidies to needy residents. Other funds are restricted for scholarships, capital improvements, Alzheimer's care and resident needs.
The Foundation staff would be happy to talk to you about your charitable giving goals. We can help with a full range of both current and deferred giving opportunities for donors who share our commitment to compassionate, respectful care for older adults.
