What is The Gardens at Friendship Haven? The Gardens opened in 2004 and is certified by the State of Iowa as an assisted living program. The beautiful new environment is made up of three neighborhoods with 16 apartments in each, two provide memory support and care, and one neighborhood is traditional assisted living. We have embraced culture change and our philosophy is to provide resident centered services and care.
We promote, reinforce and provide: resident choice and control, privacy, individuality, comfort, relationships, purpose, fun and family and community ties
What is Assisted Living in Iowa? Assisted Living is a certified program designed for frail elderly, including those with dementia who are in need of a supervised environment and supportive services. Assisted Living residents are able to select and direct the services provided to them or can designate someone to direct the services if they are unable to do it themselves.
The Gardens provides an intimate comfortable environment in small neighborhoods. Apartments are provided with window coverings, carpeting, telephone and cable outlets, shower facilities and in some apartments kitchenettes with refrigerators. All apartments are private with private baths, and some can accommodate married couples. Residents use their personal furniture and items. Each neighborhood has laundry facilities, a spa, dining room, kitchen, lounge, screened porch and a community room where friends and family can gather. The Gardens is located in the center of the complex adjacent to the Celebration Center/ Chapel and has outdoor areas including a secure courtyard between the two memory support neighborhoods.

The services, assistance, and daily schedule are determined by each resident or their representative, with four service levels to choose from to meet a variety of needs. Residents enjoy the companionship of neighbors and staff and have ongoing contact with the community through activity programming offered.
Well trained, permanently assigned, cross trained staff provide assistance with personal care, meal service, medication management, laundry, housekeeping, escorts, recreational programming and emergency response individualized for each resident.
Pet therapy is a part of The Gardens programming, and residents pets are allowed when the resident is able to care for their pet independently.
The Memory Support units have alarmed and secured exits, adapted activity programming, and specialized training for staff.
